Saw this at the Denver Airport this morning — it’s an ad for a bank
giving away “free books,” with a QR code to scan from a smartphone.
free sudoku, and another for books. Very clever, and a good use of QR
codes given the recent ubiquity of smartphones. What struck me about
the reading options, however, is that they are all from the public
domain. This billboard offers Sherlock Holmes, Don Quixote, and War of
the Worlds. With a major company (a bank no less,) leveraging the public domain,
what are the odds they’ll help lobby for some sanity in copyright law
next time Mickey is up to expire?
